RNA modifications can be found in a wide range of organisms and in almost all RNA species, including tRNA, mRNA and small non-coding RNAs. These modifications are of great interest in scientific research on cellular functions related to RNA recognition, stability, and delivery. In addition, RNA based gene regulation was shown to be impacted by RNA modifications in health and disease. The determination of the stoichiometry of an RNA modification is critical since it can vary depending on the cellular stimulus like nutrition availability, stress, signal transduction, etc.
Stable isotope labelled nucleosides and nucleotides for quantification of RNA modifications by mass spectrometry
The analysis, detection, and quantification of RNA modifications by high throughput methods is currently a very active research field in both academia and industry. For their quantification with mass spectrometry, stable isotope labelled modified nucleosides/nucleotides are required, which are of limited commercial availability.
Silantes has developed stable isotope labelled methylation nucleobases that can be used as internal standards for quantification by mass spectrometry.
In this webshop you can find a range of naturally occurring modified RNA nucleosides with stable isotope labelling patterns. The modified nucleobases are enhanced in mass by deuterium (2H), stable carbon isotope (13C) or stable nitrogen isotope (15N).
